When news emerged earlier this year that there’d be a Tetris movie, bemusement seemed like a fair reaction. How do you compose a narrative and movie out of this particular iconic game?

Back then producer Larry Kasanoff – whose credits include work on films like True Lies – spoke of the film having a surprise concept. He’s reiterated that to Empire magazine but also, somewhat amazingly, confirmed the rumours that it’ll be the first in a trilogy of movies. Some of the filming and cast will be based in China, too, which was also previously confirmed.

Some of Kasanoff’s remarks to Empire are below.

That’s correct [on the film being the first of a trilogy], and purely because the story we conceived is so big. This isn’t us splitting the last one of our eight movies in two to wring blood out of the stone. It’s just a big story.

We’re not going to have blocks with feet running around the movie, but it’s great that people think so. It sets the bar rather low!

We want the story to be a surprise, but it’s a big science-fiction movie. I came up with the idea as I was thinking about Tetris and the theme of creating order out of chaos.

I guarantee you it’s not what you think. No-one has come remotely close to figuring out what we’re doing.

It’s difficult to figure out how the simplicity of the Tetris brand fits into a broad-scope sci-fi movie, unless it’s a Matrix style quest to rebuild the world with oversized pixelated blocks. Who knows, but it’ll be intriguing to follow; we weren’t sure how one film would work, so confirmation it’s part of a trilogy has us rather intrigued.

What epic tale do you want to be told in a Tetris movie? Share your synopsis in the comments below.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is one of the PlayStation 4’s most interesting upcoming games, and that has led to Sony unleashing a monster upon the industry.

Inside the Los Angles Convention Center, which houses the Electronic Entertainment Expo trade show, Sony has a roving cosplayer dressed as a robo-dinosaur from its upcoming Horizon sci-fi hunting adventure. This mammoth costume is several meters long from its head to the tip of its tail, and it requires four people — in addition to the human being inside of the outfit — to help it navigate the crowded aisles of E3.

Check out the clip below to see how the cosplay forces the tradeshow’s halls to come to a halt so that people can get a look at the craftmanship and so that the trail doesn’t accidentally knock someone out.

Love them or hate them, Funko’s Pop! vinyl figures power on, gobbling up licensed figures and spewing them out in their trademark style again and again. This round’s fodder is Mega Man and pals, including Rush, Proto Man, and Dr. Wily. These things are available wherever products are sold, so keep an eye out. There will be Ice Slasher and Fire Storm Mega Man variants available only at Gamestop.

So it’s catgirl day in the qposts. Figured I’d stay with the fuzzy theme, kind of. Honestly makes me sad as hell though. Tuesday I came home to find my best friend (non-human, or man this story would be weird), curled up where I park waiting for me. Sadly he had passed. Poncho was the best fucking pet I ever owned, and dammit it hurts. Had a lot of dogs and cats in my almost 35 yrs., but Ponch was a fucking character. Mostly though he was a lover. Dude always waited for me to come home, hung out with me, ate my fucking food (and stole my pepsi), and was just an all around good catdude. Found him in a dumpster, three years ago this July. Way too soon to lose the guy. Is what it is though. Time to bury that pain and kill some of you.

Actually I just want to play some Turtles in co-op (I don’t gaf what folks are saying, I love it). I don’t feel like hooking up the PS4, and can’t afford getting Doom on PC too or Quake Live, so yeah. Let’s play. Sorry for bringing the mood down. Just all the damn cat posts… Also, all the cats in that header hate the person who did that. Don’t do that to your pets.

Overwatch released a few days ago, and is already considered a smashing success for Blizzard. A cosplayer named Aza Miyuko decided to dress up as D.Va, the tank hero that pilots a mech in the Overwatch universe. For those of you unfamiliar with D.Va herself, watch this overview video from Blizzard. It’ll help you appreciate the inspiration that Aza had for her costume of the character.

Aza has been in the cosplay scene for more than a few years now. In the wide range of roles she’s willing to try, you’ll find her dressed up as Harley Quinn, Sweetheart Sona from League of Legends, a World of Warcraft Blood Elf, and Nishikino Maki from Love Live!. She’s even willing to jump into the water for a One Piece related cosplay.

If you’re interested in taking a look around at her content, check out her website or Facebook page.

This Nova is another great cosplay that looks like an in-game shot screenshot

Calypsen Cosplay, a cosplay artist from Poland, has one killer ensemble here with her Starcraft Nova outfit.

It looks damn near perfect, from the details on her armor even down to the hair. What’s old is new again, as Nova has been thrust back into the forefront of Blizzard-dom with her appearance in Heroes of the Storm and her new Covert Ops add-on. She’s also still prominently on display at Blizzard’s Headquarters!

She also plays a mean D.Va from Overwatch, which you can also see in the gallery. But after seeing how good it is, now I’m just going through withdraws — less than a week until launch!

Cubone and Umbreon dazzle in Sex Expo's first cosplay contest screenshot

You know what they say about sex: gotta have it. And Sydney has it in droves as the host-city for sex expo Sexpo. Incidentally that’s also what we’re calling E3 this year as Destructoid fits me, Brett, Jordan, Kyle, and Zack horizontally over one twin mattress. It’ll be like a package of all-beef franks.

In Sexpo’s (still a great name!) first ever cosplay contest, a combination of judges and crowd hollering anointed one winner — Vandolly Cosplay’s Harley Quinn –the recipient of $2,000 Australian dollars (close to $1,500 in American monies). The final four boiled down to the aforementioned psych doc, a Lollipop Chainsaw, a Cubone, and an Umbreon.

And, really, for an event called Sexpo (hah!) I’m not seeing anything that much more revealing or risque than at other cosplay-filled events, but the Kotaku write up on the event makes it seem like everyone had a lovely time, so good on folks dressing sexy and having fun.
