Adam Savage’s TED Talk About Cosplay

Ask any given cosplayer about what he or she thinks cosplay means, and you’ll receive a long list of answers. The hobby is all about creating and becoming someone else for a day. We’ve seen maker Adam Savage dress up for conventions time and time again; he often wears a costume to San Diego Comic-Con (the giant event is happening right now). Savage is such a fan of making and wearing costumes, and he focused on the topic in a recent TED Talk. He touches on something important:

This isn’t a performer-audience relationship; this is cosplay. We are, all of us on that floor, injecting ourselves into a narrative that meant something to us. And we’re making it our own. We’re connecting with something important inside of us. And the costumes are how we reveal ourselves to each other.
